To kick off Bike Month in May, the Bike Month Humboldt Coalition will host three casual, fun group bicycle rides on the weekend of May 5-7. 

 

Friday, May 5 – Scavenger Hunt Bike Ride 

 

First, the Bike Month Humboldt Coalition is hosting a scavenger hunt bicycle ride on Friday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. from the Arcata Plaza. Have fun riding throughout Arcata while completing scavenger hunt challenges and competing for prizes. The ride is free but raffle tickets can be purchased with proceeds going to Companion Animal Foundation. Saturday, May 6 – Arts Alive Bike Ride

 

Next, explore the Eureka Waterfront Then, Now & Later on a family-friendly ride during Arts Alive on Saturday, May 6. Meet at the Old Town Gazebo at 5:45 p.m. and ride out at 6 p.m. to explore the diverse working waterfront of Eureka while learning about Eureka’s varied history and seeing construction underway for a future segment of the Eureka Waterfront Trail! The group ride will be about 1-1.5 hours in order to still enjoy all the happenings at Arts Alive. Helmets and bike lights strongly recommended. Sunday, May 7 – Pancake Ride

 

And on Sunday, May 7 at 9 a.m. the Bike Month Humboldt Coalition will sponsor its first Pancake Ride with a casual, group ride from the Eureka Old Town Gazebo to the Freshwater Grange’s pancake breakfast. Thursday, May 11 Arcata Bike to Work Day

On Thursday, May 11, Bike to Work Day will kick off in Arcata at the North Coast Co-op’s morning energizer station, where cyclists wearing helmets will get free hot drinks, snacks and bike tune-ups from 7 to 9 a.m. Then join the crowd on two wheels for a rally at noon on the Arcata Plaza. Meet fellow cyclists, join the Humboldt Bike Challenge, get a free bike tune-up, and show community support for the bicycle as a fun and inexpensive transportation choice. Visit Bike Month Humboldt on Facebook or visit humbike.org to learn about other Bike Month events throughout May!

On Thursday, May 18, celebrate Bike to Work Day in Eureka at the North Coast Co-op from 7 to 9 a.m., and at noon at the Old Town Gazebo for the Bike to Work Day rally.
