The mission of the Youth Service Bureau Thrift Store is to provide
quality merchandise at a fair price and to provide employment and training
opportunities
for youth and other individuals within the community.
Our goal is to provide a local source of revenue to augment the annual
operating budget of the Youth Service Bureau of Redwood Community
Action Agency.
The YSB Thrift Store also exists to help our community through our
voucher program.
DONATIONS
Donations to the Youth Service Bureau Thrift Store help clothe needy
youth as well as raise funds to run YSB programs. We are happy
to accept donations
when possible, but please note that dumping after hours costs
us HUNDREDS of dollars in fees every month. Please help us keep our
costs down
by bringing your donations between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday
through Thursday and 10
a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.
Donations we DO NOT accept:
- Encyclopedias
- Dirty or moldy books
- Text books
- Magazines (except craft magazines or National Geographic)
- Exercise equipment
- Mattresses and box springs (try St. Vincent de Paul)
- Bike helmets
- Car seats or carriers
- Baby swings
- Electrical with taped cords
To schedule a pick-up, please call 445-4217.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are essential to the YSB thrift store, especially
as budgets are continuing to be cut. The donation of your time with
the YSB thrift shop will help youth in our community have continued
access to our services no cost. All profits from our thrift shop supplement
funding to YSB programs.
Thrift store volunteers assist customers, sort and tag merchandise,
and operate the cash register. Volunteers receive a 30% discount after
completing
20 hours in a month. Schedules are flexible.
People who have been court order on non violence offense can work off
their fines by doing community service for our store.
Please call 445-4217 to find out more about volunteer opportunities.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
The YSB Thrift Shop hires regular
employees as well as providing training for A.A.R.P. and youth.
We work with Cal-Works and many
other
organizations.
We provide the training and they supply the people and wages. Without
this program we would not be able to provide low cost quality items.
We also provide interview outfits for people seeking employment through
the E.D.D. office.
